Bloomingdale is one of the earliest villages settled in what is now DuPage County and traces its founding to the year 1833. Today, the Village encompasses approximately seven (7) square miles of land and has an estimated 2018 population of 22,016. With its convenient location, approximately twenty-five (25) miles west of the City of Chicago, Bloomingdale residents enjoy big city benefits in a small town atmosphere. Bloomingdale offers first class schools, abundant recreation opportunities, is situated amid plenty of open spaces, while boasting a wide and varied retail and commercial/industrial base.

The Village is a home-rule community that provides a full range of services including police protection, construction and maintenance of streets and infrastructure, building permit and inspection services, recreational and social events, water and sewer services and other general government services. It operates under the statutory Village form of government which includes a President (or Mayor) and six (6) Trustees, and one (1) Village Clerk who collectively form the Village Board of Trustees. The Village Administrator is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Village's seven departments of Administration, Finance, Police, Public Works, Building & Zoning, Engineering and Information Systems.

Building and Grounds Maintenance Worker II (Open Positions: 1)

Purpose of Position

The Public Works Department is seeking full-time applicants for the Building & Grounds Maintenance Worker II position.

The position reports to the Buildings & Grounds/Forestry Supervisor.  The starting pay is $25.42 hour ($52,873.60).

Qualified applicants must be customer-driven and have knowledge & experience in maintaining buildings.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Basic knowledge of electric, plumbing, and carpentry, in order to handle minor tasks (HVAC system, test alarm systems, door locking systems, general building repairs, etc.)

Knowledge of the tools, materials and methods related to Buildings & Grounds maintenance 

Ability to deal with customers and Village staff tactfully and courteously

Ability to follow oral and written instruction and carry these out

Ability to maintain work logs, schedules, maintenance records, etc.

Ability to keep inventories and order supplies

Must be flexible with work shifts and changing of work schedules to accomplish Village needs.

Must be an energetic team player, willing to handle complex tasks as well as completing basic maintenance and custodial functions. 

Assists with snow plowing and ice control functions.

Inspects and maintains vehicles and equipment; reports malfunctions to supervisor.

Assists with the preparations and tear-down/clean-up for events, festivals and special functions.

Maintains availability on call (with one other employee) to respond to emergency situations. 

Position requires the employee to respond to call-backs and requires overtime work and work on nights, holidays and weekends.

Performs physical labor during adverse weather conditions, and in confined spaces.

Ability to safely drive light to heavy-duty trucks and miscellaneous equipment.

Position may also be required to cross-train for “job rotation” assignments with other Division’s Maintenance Worker II operations.


Minimum Qualifications

Position requires a high school diploma or equivalent with vocational/technical training in the construction trades or a related field with two to three years of building maintenance experience, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

A valid Illinois Driver's License is required with the ability to obtain a minimum class “A” CDL with a tankers endorsement within six months of employment.
