Bloomingdale is one of the earliest villages settled in what is now DuPage County and traces its founding to the year 1833. Today, the Village encompasses approximately seven (7) square miles of land and has an estimated 2012 population of 22,028. With its convenient location, approximately twenty-five (25) miles west of the City of Chicago, Bloomingdale residents enjoy big city benefits in a small town atmosphere. Bloomingdale offers first class schools, abundant recreation opportunities, is situated amid plenty of open spaces, while boasting a wide and varied retail and commercial/industrial base.

The Village is a home-rule community that provides a full range of services including police protection, construction and maintenance of streets and infrastructure, building permit and inspection services, recreational and social events, water and sewer services and other general government services. It operates under the statutory Village form of government which includes a President (or Mayor) and six (6) Trustees, who collectively form the Village Board of Trustees, or Village Board. The Village Administrator is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Village's four departments of Administration, Finance, Police, and Village Services.

In general, Bloomingdale offers a generous benefit package to regular full time employees as well as more flexible scheduling options for part time work. Currently, the Village has budgeted for nearly 150 positions on a regular or temporary employment basis. Civil Engineering Intern

Purpose of Position

The Village of Bloomingdale Engineering Department is accepting applications for the position of Civil Engineering Intern for the 2018 summer months. The Civil Engineering Intern will assist Engineering staff with various municipal infrastructure improvements, as noted in the position description.  Work hours are generally 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The rate of pay for this position is $12 to $14 per hour, (depending on qualifications/experience), with an expected work week of 40 hours.

Qualified candidates must possess a valid Driver's License with a safe operating record, and be presently enrolled in a 4 year accredited  university with a major in Civil Engineering, (entering junior or senior year), with college-level courses in civil engineering.  The Village of Bloomingdale is an Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE)
